Kangaroo Island

Kangaroos aren’t the only creatures you’re likely to stumble across on South Australia’s famous Kangaroo Island.

This is the ultimate preserve for Australian wildlife – one third national or conservation park, and half the island completely untouched. Animals thrive here due in part to their isolation from the mainland, which has protected them and their habitat from the damaging effects of non-native animals such as foxes and rabbits.

Seals lounge around on the beaches, unfazed by humans strolling past, koalas hang in the trees, and other native animals thrive on the island – such as echidnas, goannas and platypus. Spectacular coastal scenery and geological features provide a dramatic backdrop for a memorable holiday adventure.

South Australian Tourism authorities describe Kangaroo Island as a wildlife sanctuary, and here at Flour Cask Bay Sanctuary, we are working to conserve this wonderful and unique environment. Come and spend at least a week so that you have sufficient time to see Australia’s third largest Island and its many attractions.

The Tour Kangaroo Island web site has lots of useful information on wildlife throughout the seasons, plus links to a Kangaroo Island map, tours and activites across the Island. Alternately if you need assistance to plan your entire Kangaroo Island visit, just contact us.
